Cassis puree, with gourmet edges of smoked caramel, blacberry and spiced plum. This is tight at the moment, needs a good few hours in a carafe to really show itself, and will improve further over next few years. 40% new...

Wine Enthusiast, April 2013

(92-94 points) Barrel sample. Solid and concentrated, this wine certainly shows great dryness as well as fruit. It has power and density, and a texture that balances new wood as well as the fruitiness. ROGER VOSS

Chateau Gloria is one-of-a-kind, created by Henri Martin who purchased plots piece-by-piece, but exclusively from crus classified in 1855. The 50 hectare vineyard spans three areas: the middle of Beychevelle, the west of Saint-Julien and, on the north, on the border of Pauillac.

The vines include 65% Cabernet Sauvignon, 25% Merlot, 5% Cabernet Franc and 5% Petit Verdot on Gunzian gravel soil over a layer of clay and sand. Average vine age is 40 years.

Chateau Gloria also has a second wine, Chateau Peymartin, produced using the estate's youngest vines.

Chateau Gloria is harvested by hand, with traditional vinification and fermentation in heat-regulated stainless steel vats. The wine matures for 14 months in casks, 40% of them new. Recent vintages have featured jammy fruit, typically prune and black currant, with rich but approachable tannins.

This 2012 Chateau Gloria St. Julien is a red Bordeaux blend that hails from the prestigious Bordeaux region of France. With its deep red color and elegant label, this wine exudes sophistication and class. The grapes for this wine come from the sub-region of St Julien, known for producing exceptional wines.

On the nose, this wine offers a captivating bouquet of black fruits, with good depth and intensity. Succulent and fresh, the aromas are inviting and promise a delightful experience. The palate follows through on the promise, with ripe and elegant flavors that meet the standards of a cru classe wine.

Renowned wine publication Decanter gave this vintage a score of 90 points, praising its depth of black fruits and ripe, elegant flavors. Wine critic Jeff Leve also awarded it 90 points, describing it as forward and open in style, with soft tannins and medium body. The blend of 63% Cabernet Sauvignon, 27% Merlot, 5% Cabernet Franc, and 5% Petit Verdot creates a balanced and harmonious wine.

Wine Enthusiast was even more impressed, giving this wine a score of 94 points as a barrel sample. They noted its solid and concentrated nature, with great dryness and power. The texture of the wine is well-balanced, showcasing both the fruitiness and the influence of new wood.

Renowned wine critic Jane Anson also awarded this vintage a score of 94 points.
