94+ The 2012 Corton-Charlemagne was showing very well and has clearly gone into the bottle with all of the potential it showed in cask fully intact. The bouquet delivers a classic blend of apple, pear, iodine, a fine base of chalky stoniness, a touch of lemon zest, vanillin oak and acacia blossoms in the upper register. On the palate the wine is deep, full-bodied, complex and rock solid at the core, with excellent focus and grip, bright acids and a very long, soil-driven and classic finish. Great juice.

The nose is presently slightly reduced which is not unusual just after the bottling. My sense is that it won't last as it seems clear that the underlying fruit is ripe. There is excellent density and plenty of punch to the big-bodied and voluminous flavors that enjoy ample mid-palate concentration before culminating in an agreeably dry, clean and impressively long, indeed even explosive finish. The only nit is a hint of warmth but overall this is excellent and should amply reward 7 to 10 years of cellar time.

91+ Tasted blind at the Burgundy 2012 tasting in Beaune. The 2012 Corton Charlemagne Grand Cru from Bonneau du Martray was showing signs of reduction on the nose but it is not as combined as I might have feared. The palate has a touch of bitterness on the entry, disjointed compared to its peers and yet Bonneau du Martray is often like that in its youth, coming together with bottle age. I scored this quite severely and yet one could still detect a great wine in the making, albeit one of the next decade, not this. - Neal Martin
