A strikingly layered nose combines notes of both red and black cherry with hints of spice, earth, humus and animale notes. The very generous middle weight flavors manage to retain a fine sense of tension and detail before culminating in a beautifully intense, balanced, long and saline-inflected finish. The 2012 Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Les Cherbaudes comes from 0.67-hectares of vines planted in 1940. It has a very attractive bouquet with fresh raspberry, Tiptree strawberry jam, light bergamot scents and great delineation. The palate is smooth and silky. This is a more opulent take on the 2012 from Jean-Marie Fourrier, but still well defined with a harmonious, seductive finish adorned with a tang of marmalade on the aftertaste. - Neal Martin (WA93-91)
