(AG91-93 points) A finely-knit wine, the 2012 Gevrey-Chambertin Les Seuvrées is showing beautifully today. Plum, blueberry, new leather, cloves and menthol all flesh out in a sumptuous wine loaded with class and resonance. Graphite and savory herbs develop later, adding further dimensions of complexity and nuance. In 2012, the Seuvrées is a stand out. It also has plenty of potential for the future.

Raspberry and smoked meat on the inviting nose. Shows distinctly darker fruit character than the La Justice, as well as greater energy to its flavors of blackberry and boysenberry. The serious tannins are essentially sweet, but this dense village wine finishes with a touch of youthful austerity that bodes well for a slower evolution in bottle.

The palate is more expressive with dark cherries, cranberry and a dash of pepper, although the finish is more austere than I expected and suggests that 2-3 years bottle age is necessary. - Neal Martin
