The 2012 Ferran is a slightly translucent deep ruby red in the glass. It opens on the nose with notes of red cherry, red currant, blueberry and plum. The fruit is nuanced by layers of tobacco, black tea and red flowers, as well as dry earth. Transitioning to the palate, the wine reveals itself nicely with a medium full body and a great balance of gripping tannins and acidity. The finish is long and leaves a very pleasant mouth feel. This Pessac-Léognan is drinking beautifully now but will age nicely for another two decades or so, especially considering the larger format. It is very food friendly and will pair nicely with a variety of classic dishes, but it would also do well as a casual wine to have with friends over cheese and crackers.
