The 2012 Garnacha de Viña Bonita is pure old-vine Garnacha (87 years) from poor, compact and shallow granite soils, from a single plot at 735 meters altitude where they keep a vegetal cover to provide some organic matter and avoid working the soils, something they'll be doing in three- or four-year cycles to add life to the soils. The full clusters are fermented with indigenous yeasts in bind and vats and the first days the grapes are foot trodden. The wine aged for one year in used 600-liter French oak barrels. The color is very light, a translucent, bright, ruby, and the nose is an explosion of flowers, violets and even lilies, ripe cherries and wild strawberries and a spicy hint, with aN organic (peat?), somehow closed side, which makes it different to the others. The palate is medium-bodied, long, with good acidity and a very long aftertaste, with subtleness and complexity that make it mysterious and very attractive. - Luis Gutierrez
