Here the expressive and complex nose is more deeply pitched with humus and underbrush notes adding breadth to the mostly dark berry fruit suffused and green tea aromas that also display plenty of sauvage character. This is both bigger and more concentrated than the Charmes with good muscle and punch to the detailed and intense finish that delivers excellent persistence. A classic Mazoyères of focused power and muscle.

92+ Tasted blind at the annual "Burgfest" tasting in Beaune. The 2012 Mazoyères Chambertin Grand Cru feels a little simple on the nose following on from the Mazoyères-Chambertin 2012 from Maume-Tawse, without the same degree of complexity and nuance. There are some decent rustic red fruit here, but they need more delineation. The palate is much better than the aromatics with feisty black and red fruit and quite firm tannins, though it does not quite deliver the necessary nuance and tension on the somewhat sinewy finish. I strongly suspect that another two or three years will see an amelioration in this wine since it gains finesse in the glass over the course of ten minutes. - Neal Martin

This has plenty of cherry, currant and wild berry flavors locked up in a firm grip, ending with a mouthwatering finish. The tight weave and firm acidity and tannins should keep this fresh and youthful with time in the bottle. Best from 2018 through 2032. 215 cases made. –BS
