The bouquet is a deep and again quite dark fruit-toned blend of black cherries, black plums, chocolate, rosemary, dark soil tones, lavender and a smoky topnote. On the palate the wine is deep, full-bodied, plush and chocolaty, with a fine core, ripe tannins and a long, nascently complex and black fruity finish. Again, I have never tasted a young vintage of Maréchaudes with these aromatics and flavor profile, but the wine is very well-made and should age very well indeed. I cannot wait to see its ultimate personality!

This is old school in style but not at all hard or even especially rustic though note well that patience will be required.

Aromas of cherry, flowers, spices and pepper are lifted by a pungent limestone topnote. Juicy, sappy and sweet; more evolved and showy today owing to the earlier malo. The building tannins are firm but elegant and not at all dry, with the finish delivering lovely length and grip. I like the influence of the stems here. -- Stephen Tanzer
