Here the wood treatment is a bit more restrained though still ample as it better allows the nose that is comprised of various red berries, exotic teas and spice elements to be appreciated. There is more evident minerality to the muscular and broad-scaled medium weight plus flavors that deliver fine depth and length on the balanced finish where the wood telegraphed by the nose resurfaces. This powerful if woody effort is a relatively forward example of the appellation that should be approachable young though still manage to reward mid-term cellaring.

(WA88-90 points) The 2013 Richebourg Grand Cru has a candied bouquet with blackberry, marmalade, a smear of furniture polish and raspberry preserve, all nicely defined. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannins, fine acidity, quite dense toward the finish, that has a grainy texture. This is burly at the moment and perhaps missing the finesse of its peers, although it does boast good persistence in the mouth. I just expect more complexity and nuance in such a noble name. - Neal Martin
