Tasted blind at the Burgfest tasting in Beaune, the 2013 Nuits Saint-Georges 1er Cru Les Boudots has a sophisticated, well-defined, expressive bouquet with red plum, redcurrant and raspberry fruit, nicely integrated oak that allows sous-bois aromas to percolate through with aeration. Lovely focus here! The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannin, well judged acidity, focused and quite intense with admirable tension on the finish. It requires 4-5 years in bottle but it will reward those with patience. Tasted September 2016. - Neal Martin

Gentle but not invisible wood serves as a backdrop for spicy and distinctly earthy red and dark currant aromas that possess an unusual yet interesting top note of dried tangerine peel. As is the case with many of the Grivot 2013s the mouth feel of the middle weight plus flavors is relatively fine thanks to the refined if firm tannins that shape and support the suave, powerful and mouth coating finale. This moderately firm and ever-so-mildly rustic effort will also need all of 12 years or so to reveal its full potential. Worth considering. 2025+

This is aromatic, exuding floral, wild berry, spice and herbal notes. Flirts with elegance, boasting grip and racy acidity, ending with a chewy texture. Best from 2018 through 2030. 50 cases imported. –BS

Almost perfect ruby red in the glass, this premier cru is still a little coy and needs a few good swirls to come around. The nose leads with bright red cherry, pomegranate and cranberry mixed with fresh cut flowers and a pronounced accent of freshly tilled moist soils with mushrooms and white pepper that just make you want to dive right in for that first sip. Taking the dive, the wine is a solid medium body for the vintage with the fruit at the forefront. Delicate tannins and a solid spine of acidity carry this wine through its long, pepper-driven finish.
