89+ The 2013 Chassagne villages is another fine example of the vintage, but then again, this bottling is always a very strong AC. The bouquet wafts from the glass in a very classic blend of apple, peach, a hint of honey, chalky soil tones, gentle floral nuances and vanillin oak. On the palate the wine is deep, full-bodied and nicely balanced, with a fine core, bright acids and good length and grip on the complex finish. This will drink very well out of the blocks, but has the structure to age as well.

A pungent nose features notes of petrol, straw, pear and a hint of tea. The round and supple middle weight flavors possess a suave but vibrant mouth feel before concluding in a salineinflected, persistent and balanced finish. This is really quite good for a villages level Chassagne though it won’t wow you with refinement. 2018+

The 2013 Chassagne Montrachet Village Blanc, which is already in bottle, has a fragrant bouquet with hints of white peach coming through, although it is more reticent than the premier cru as one would expect. The palate is crisp on the entry with very good acidity, a citric ribbon from start to finish that is nicely controlled. This seems like a step up from the 2012 last year and with aeration, a pleasant spiciness develops on the aftertaste. - Neal Martin
