From the late ripening top of the Muschelkalk slope and 39-year-old vines, the 2013 Riesling Clos Windsbuhl opens with a deep, very clear, subtle, smoky, lemony, and floral bouquet with wet stone aromas, and the precision of a great Riesling. Full-bodied, fresh, very elegant and mineral on the palate, this pure, extremely focused, austerely mineral and highly complex wine does not have a single gram of fat and finishes with a fantastic grip, and a very long and salty aftertaste. This sleeper is probably one of the greatest and most tension-filled dry 2013 Rieslings I have tasted from this vintage, Austria and Germany included. A Must Buy for all Riesling freaks. - Stephan Reinhardt

Extremely deep, complex aromas of green apple, green papaya, gooseberry, jasmine and lemon verbena, with a bright mineral overlay. Fresh and juicy in the mouth, offering captivating, multilayered flavors of fresh citrus fruits, minerals and mint. Finishes with lemony acidity and a saline, almost oystery nuance (not surprising given the Muschelkalk calcaire soil, which is rich in fossils). This very reserved but absolutely beautiful Clos Windsbuhl will repay cellaring. Completely different from the 2012 Clos Windsbuhl, which was held much longer in cask. - Ian D'Agata

This is a crazy wine with sliced lime, mineral and a tangy finish. Full body, electrifying acidity. Tingling. Oyster and iodine influence. This is Saar-like! Drink now. Made from biodynamically grown grapes.

Their zestiness then fills out with subtle, earthy spice. On the light, dry palate, the true subtlety hits: wafts of lemon, aromatic wild thyme, Seville orange zest, fresh apple peel and wet stone. The delicacy of the concentrated body is astonishing, with a central vein of lemony freshness that provides a focal point. So subtle, so layered and alive: with every new sip new nuances occur.
