The 2013 Barolo Castelletto Vigna Pressenda sees fruit sourced from the middle part of the Castelletto vineyard where there is a mix of lighter, sandy soils. These loose soils have impacted the wine's distinct character. The bouquet is subdued and graceful. Overall, there is less primary fruit intensity. Instead, the aromas veer towards ethereal tones of licorice, dry hazelnut and medicinal herb. The mouthfeel, on the other hand, is very direct and pointed. The tannins are firm and tight. The wine needs a few more years to get out of this more reticent phase. - Monica Larner
