The 2013 The Pact is Cabernet Sauvignon from primarily Coombsville and Rutherford, but some other small lots are in the blend, according to winemaker Charles Thomas, who has an impressive resumé, having worked at Rudd Estate as well as Robert Mondavi. The wine ratchets up the levels of richness, displaying a deep purple color and notes of pen ink, crème de cassis and vanilla in a medium to full-bodied, impressive style. It is meant to be drunk now and over the next 15 or so years. - Robert Parker
