This rich wine is structured, with orange zest and apple skins given a boost of fragrant acidity. It’s packed with yellow fruits and the freshest acidity. Drink this lightly tannic wine now, although it would be better to wait until 2017.

The 2013 Clos du Four has turned out beautifully in this vintage, wafting from the glass in a very classy blend of apple, pear, a touch of nutskin, toasty soil tones, orange peel and a gently smoky topnote. On the palate the wine is deep, full-bodied and vibrant, with good mid-palate concentration, lovely focus and nascent complexity and lovely length and grip on the finish. A strong vintage for this iconic Mâcon bottling. (Drink between 2015-2022)

(WA89-91 points) The barrel sample of 2013 Mâcon Milly Lamartine Clos du Four had been fined ten days previously. It has a clean and fresh, quite vibrant bouquet with perhaps a little more intensity than the 2012. The palate is very well-balanced with great body, plenty of rounded apple and pear notes with fine precision on the finish. There is a sense of conservatism suffusing this sample - I wonder if it will still be there after bottling? - Neal Martin
