Incisive, mineral-accented poached pear, tangerine and honey aromas are lifted by a smoky mineral overlay. Plush and sappy on the palate, offering chewy, concentrated flavors of ripe citrus fruits, peach nectar and buttered toast. Shows very good energy and power on the finish, leaving bitter pear skin, ginger and subtle vanilla notes behind. There's 100% new oak here, by the way, but it isn't obvious, nor is the 15.1% alcohol. -- Josh Raynolds

A blend of 67% Viognier and 33% Roussanne, aged 9 months in 100% new French oak, that comes from a number of vineyard in Santa Barbara County, the 2013 Tomboy was a little hard to read on this occasion. Starting out with a big, yeasty, wood-dominated bouquet with back ground notes of caramelized peaches, honeysuckle and wood smoke, it cleaned up with air and showed a more classic white fruit and white flower bouquet but still seemed not quite together. Big, full-bodied, voluptuous and textured on the palate, I suspect it just needs 6-8 months of bottle age to come together. - Jeb Dunnuck
