The 2013 Chevillon Perrières is quite black fruity in personality this year and recalls very strongly the beautiful 1993 at this address when that wine was young. The bouquet is pure, elegant and very intense, delivering a complex mix of black cherries, sweet dark berries, pigeon, beautiful minerality, raw cocoa, smoke and vanillin oak. On the palate the wine is deep, full-bodied and as reserved as it customarily is out of the blocks, with a rock solid core of sappy black fruit, fine-grained tannins, excellent focus and grip and a very, very long, soil-driven finish that turns quite stony on the backend. (WA91-93 points) The 2013 Nuits Saint Georges 1er Cru les Perrières has a heightened sense of mineralité compared to Chevillon’s other crus, with wet cold stone scents infusing the bright red fruit. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannins and a vitamin-like purity: orange zest, hints of marmalade, a slight savory note toward the long finish. This is a linear, "athletic" Nuits Saint Georges, that should flourish once in bottle. - Neal Martin

(BH89-92 points) A relatively high-toned, elegant and cool nose features notes of red berry fruit aromas that include cherry, raspberry and pomegranate along with hints of spice and sandalwood. The impression of elegance is reinforced by the refined middle weight flavors thanks to the sleek tannins and abundant minerality that continues onto the vibrant and ever-so-slightly austere finish. This is textbook Perrières, which is to say an understated and harmonious wine built on its minerality.
