TheWineCellarInsider.com, April 2014

(92-94 points) Dark ruby in color, the wine combines notes of spicy chocolate, truffle and sweet, ripe plum with silky tannins and supple textures. Yes, this is a lighter, early-drinking Trotanoy, but it offers a good...

Wine Enthusiast, March 2016

Cellar Selection. This wine has a lot of class and elegance, along with firm tannins that show how well it will age. It is dark and concentrated, the black fruits still developing under the solid structure. This wine will...

A pretty wine with firm and silky tannins, fresh fruit that has a citrus undertone. Hints of chocolate and walnut. Drink now or hold.

Robert Parker's Wine Advocate, October 2016

The 2013 Trotanoy appears to be maturing nicely in bottle. What I appreciate is the precision on the nose. No, it is not as complex or as intense as other vintages, yet there is admirable detail here, crushed stone mixed...

Wine Spectator, March 2016

This has noticeable heft for the vintage, with an ample dose of warm charcoal around the core of crushed plum and raspberry pâte de fruit. Delivers more than enough depth and energy to stay balanced through the finish...

Decanter, September 2014

Lovely fruit. Balance and harmony as well. Pitch perfect for the vintage. Long, firm finish.

Pomerol’s famous Trotanoy, whose soil was too hard to work and thus called “trop anoi” (too annoying) in medieval French, is located on one of the most beautiful parts of the Pomerol plateau. The fascinating soil diversity—half gravel mixed with clay and half deep black clay —with the presence of “machefer” or iron pan in the subsoil, brings power, depth and complexity to the wine.

Chateau Trotanoy’s vineyard was one of the few not to freeze in 1956 and today, it is comprised of very old vines, the average being close to 35 years. 90% of the vines are Merlot, the rest Cabernet Franc.

Trotanoy was acquired by Ets. Jean-Pierre Moueix, who own many other properties in both Pomerol and Saint-Emilion, including Magdelaine, Belair-Monange, La Fleur-Petrus, Lafleur-Gazin, Lagrange, Latour a Pomerol, and Hosanna.

Trotanoy is vinified in small concrete vats and the young wine matures in 50% new oak barrels for about 18 months. When ready, this wine shows enormous complexity and concentration. It can easily be kept 25 years or more in great vintages.
