jamessuckling.com, February 2017

Aromas of spices and earth with mushrooms. Dark fruit. Full-bodied, dense and rich with earth and spices. A beauty. Soft and juicy. Savory yet exotic. From biodynamically grown grapes. First year. Drink or hold.

Wine Enthusiast, April 2017

This second wine of Château Palmer is dense and structured. With ripe swathes of black fruits and juicy Merlot showing strongly, it already displays the potential of the vintage. Generous and ripe, the wine has a fine...

TheWineCellarInsider.com, March 2017

Medium-bodied, elegant, refined and forward, there is fruit with an earthy charm, length and slightly sandy tannins in the finish. The wine was produced from a blend of 52% Merlot, 35% Cabernet Sauvignon and 13% Petit...

Robert Parker's Wine Advocate, April 2015

(WA 90-92 points) The Alter Ego de Palmer 2014 is a blend of 52% Merlot, 35% Cabernet Sauvignon and 13% Petit Verdot. It has an opulent, glossy bouquet with layers of small dark cherries and plenty of glycerin. The...

Jancis Robinson's Purple Pages, February 2018

(17.5/20) Tasted blind. Serious, complex wine with layers and ambition. Real edge to this. Hint of mint but also floral perfume and some interesting persistence. Slightly salty.

Decanter, April 2015

Beautiful perfume and polished flavours. Velvety-smooth, delicate tannins and a hidden depth that will build in barrel while retaining freshness, length and purity. Read more at...

jebdunnuck.com, February 2018

The 2014 Palmer Alter Ego checks in as a blend of 52% Merlot, 35% Cabernet Sauvignon and the rest Petit Verdot. It offers classic notes of ripe black cherries, licorice, leafy herbs and chocolate in a medium-bodied...

Vinous, March 2024

The 2014 Alter Ego de Palmer initially seems a little volatile on the nose. However, returning to my glass after 15 minutes, this seems to dissipate, revealing attractive, slightly exotic red fruit. The sweet palate shows...

Wine Spectator, January 2017

This has a lively feel, with light bramble, bay and wet pebble notes scattered around the core of cassis and black cherry fruit. Everything knits well through the finish. Needs just a touch of cellaring to round into...

Alter Ego is a different, nuanced expression of the Chateau Palmer terroir. Born with the 1998 vintage, Alter Ego resulted from a new approach to selecting and blending, intended to interpret the Chateau Palmer terroir differently without departing from the values that make the reputation of the estate’s wines – namely, finesse and elegance, aromatic richness, harmony and length.

Made in roughly the same volume as Chateau Palmer, Alter Ego spends less time in oak, just 16 to 18 months, and only 25% to 40% of the wood is new.

Offering intense, crispy and juicy fruits, Alter Ego is a spontaneous uninhibited wine, soft and round as soon as it has finished barrel aging. Its lush aromas and supple tannins make it a wine that can be appreciated in the first years after bottling.
