(BH89-91 points) There is enough wood to notice on the relatively high-toned nose of red cherry, raspberry and discreet spice nuances. I like the intensity of the refined middle weight flavors that culminate in a clean and detailed finish that displays a hint of asperity where my predicated range assumes will round out with time in bottle.

Tasted blind at the Burgfest 2014 tasting, the 2014 Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru Les Charmes from Hudelot-Noëllat was showing a lot of reduction on the nose that was difficult to shake off—rather meaty and truffle-heavy underneath that veneer. The oak comes across a little strongly here. The palate is medium-bodied with slightly dry tannin on the entry; indeed, this feels a little dusty and awkward even if the finish feels quite long and persistent. Hopefully it will improve with bottle age. -Neal Martin
