Pale colour with a discreet lemon and lime nose, but a suggestion of concentration. The citrus theme continues on the palate but it is not too dominant. A very pure and classy wine, the lemon notes continue through to the back of the palate. DIAM 'D'

(BH92-95 points0 An elegant and wonderfully layered nose consists of slightly more complex aromas of honeysuckle, citrus blossom, essence of pear, apple and a hint of wood toast. As is often the case the palate impression of the highly textured middle weight flavors is finer and more delicate than those of the Combettes, all wrapped in a tension-filled and lightly mineral-inflected finish that is an exercise in harmony and grace. Lovely.

Tasted blind at the annual Burgfest tasting, Leflaive's 2014 Puligny Montrachet 1er Cru Pucelles, which was the first vintage not bottled under cork (Diam "D" to be exact), is quite closed on the bouquet with cold stone and sea cave aromas that blossom with time. The palate is well balanced with a very sappy entry, a fine line of acidity and a crisp, quite spicy and persistent finish. I just think this Caillerets is very backward at the moment and will have more to give once afforded 2-3 years in bottle. This is a scintillating Les Pucelles, and guess what...it's not going to be corked!

One would expect the elegance of the 2014 vintage to find a perfect foil in the Domaine Leflaive example of Pucelles and this is exactly the case this year. The bouquet is a pure and refined mélange of lemon, pear, delicious apple, spring flowers, fresh almond, chalky soil tones and vanillin oak. On the palate the wine is deep, full-bodied and beautifully balanced, with great purity and depth at the core, bright acids and a very long, structured and tensile finish. I love the synthesis of ripe fruit, striking minerality and great cut and grip here.

Smooth and creamy, with a lime edge to the peach, apple and oak spice flavors. Shows good cut underneath, driving the flavors to a long, mouthwatering conclusion. Refined and elegant. Best from 2018 through 2024. 127 cases imported. — BS
