The 2014 Chambertin-Clos de Bèze Grand Cru has a very perfumed bouquet, perhaps the most floral in recent years; hints of graphite and loam suffuse the red fruit. Mercurial in the glass. The palate is medium-bodied, sapid and tensile, with lovely cohesion and a silky smooth finish that belies the structure underneath. This oozes class, although it needs another couple of years in bottle. Wonderful. Tasted at the Clos de Bèze vertical at La Cobotte. -- Neal Martin

(BH92-95 points) The more expressive nose is spicier with a more deeply pitched array of dark currant, plum, cassis and plenty of floral and earth characters. There is the same excellent tension and detail to the bigger and more powerful medium weight plus flavors that don't exhibit quite the same level of minerality but even better persistence. Note well that this is quite firmly structured and should generously reward extended cellaring.

Tasted blind at the Burgfest 2014 tasting, the 2014 Chambertin Clos de Bèze Grand Cru from Duroché was shaded by the wood on the nose, and it was difficult to read the fruit at this present juncture. The palate is medium-bodied with good extraction, perhaps needing a little more of the delineation and precision that defines the Clos de Bèze from Faiveley this year. It remains tight-lipped, laconic toward the finish. It will develop more personality with bottle age—I suspect this is entering a sulky period where it may shut down for a period.
