Perfumed aromas of blackberry, licorice, minerals and bitter chocolate. Delivers a remarkable combination of silkiness and solidity, showing incredible sweetness and density to its extract-rich flavors of blackberry, violet and crushed stone. This supple, pliant finish features noble tannins and great palate-staining persistence. I would not be surprised if this great grand cru went into a shell after the bottling. (Incidentally, the day before my November visit, Faiveley purchased the second-smallest holding of Musigny (just over three oeuvrés, located between the plots of Roumier and de Vogüé) from the Dufouleur family. Faiveley will now be able to make 500 to 600 bottles per year, vs. a current 150.

(BH95-97 points) Reduction renders the nose impossible to properly assess. Otherwise there is outstanding intensity and vibrancy to the silky and highly refined medium-bodied flavors that also possess an opulent mouth feel to the mid-palate before concluding in a beautifully mineral-driven and impeccably well-balanced finale that also just seems to go on and on. This seductively textured effort is exceptionally powerful and quite ripe but I cannot underscore sufficiently just how structured this wine is and even if you're lucky enough to obtain a bottle or two, you might as well consign yourself to forgetting them in the back of the cellar.
