jebdunnuck.com, November 2022

Sourced from 39 plots, the 2014 Champagne Cristal is 60% Pinot Noir and the remainder Chardonnay, with 32% aged in oak, and it has 7 grams per liter dosage. It is highly expressive of classic elegance and purity...

Wine Spectator, June 2022

This vivid Champagne shows up-front and linear definition, thanks to rapierlike acidity, with finely meshed flavors of ripe black cherry and mandarin orange fruit, raw almond, anise and cardamom spice as well as a touch...

Vinous, December 2023

The 2014 Cristal is a dark horse, a wine built along linear lines rather than opulence, and from a year that generated very little enthusiasm at the time. A cold, wet summer and attacks from the Suzuki fly at harvest were...

Wine Enthusiast, July 2022

Still young, with toast aromas and shining white-fruit flavors, the latest release of Cristal is just setting out. A dry, tight core of intense flavors are shot through with minerality from the pure chalk soil of the 45...

Decanter, June 2023

By 2014, all of the grapes made for Cristal were being farmed biodynamically and certified organic since 2012. So alive on the nose, bursting with citrus and white fruit and floral aromas as well as some buttery toast...

jamessuckling.com, August 2023

Tons of Amalfi lemon and chalky minerality here plus ripe pear and oyster shell. Quite generous and very expressive on the front- and mid-palates, but the finish is quite sleek and steely. As impressive as this is now it...

Robert Parker's Wine Advocate, February 2022

The 2014 Cristal is a terrific effort that transcends the vintage. Bursting from the glass with expressive aromas of ripe citrus fruit, nectarine, white flowers, freshly baked bread and subtle hints of honeycomb, it's...

Roederer’s most famous wine was created in 1876 to satisfy the demanding tastes of Tsar Alexander II. Particularly fond of the House’s wine, the emperor asked Louis Roederer to reserve the best cuvee for him every year. To distinguish this cuvee, this exceptional champagne came in a flat-bottomed, transparent lead-crystal bottle. The new brand was named after this precious material, which is particularly transparent and luminous.

Produced only during the best vintage years, when the Chardonnay (around 40%) and Pinot Noir (around 60%) grapes have attained perfect maturity, Cristal is aged for 6 years in Louis Roederer’s cellars and left for a further 8 months after degorgement.

Cristal is a remarkably balanced and refined champagne whose length is inimitable. It has a silky texture and fruity aromas, complemented by a powerful mineral quality with white fruit and citrus notes. Cristal is a wine that keeps well: it can be aged for over twenty years without losing its freshness and character.

The 2014 Louis Roederer Cristal is a Champagne blend from France, characterized by its precision and elegance. This vintage is notable for being sourced from biodynamically farmed grapes, earning organic certification since 2012. Composed of 60% Pinot Noir and 40% Chardonnay, with a portion aged in oak, this Champagne features a dosage of 7 grams per liter.

Reviews across the board commend the 2014 Cristal for its vibrant and complex profile. Decanter praises its "electric, clean and sharp" nature, highlighting aromas of citrus, white fruit, and floral notes with a hint of buttery toast. The palate is described as having "lemon meringue pie" and "citrus tang," all wrapped in a dense, persistent texture. James Suckling also lauds this Champagne, noting its "tons of Amalfi lemon and chalky minerality" with a "sleek and steely" finish. Stuart Pigott emphasizes its capacity to improve with age.

Jeb Dunnuck awards the Cristal a high score of 98, emphasizing its "classic elegance and purity," with aromas like "crushed rock, almond croissant, and citrus blossoms." The review underscores the Champagne's "hyper-refined mousse" and "chalky texture." Wine Spectator also gives a 98, noting the Champagne's "vivid" character with flavors of "black cherry and mandarin orange" and a finish marked by "minerally saline and chalk."

Vinous describes the 2014 Cristal as a "dark horse," built with energy and tension, reminiscent of the 2004 vintage. The finish is praised as "a thing of beauty." Meanwhile, Wine Enthusiast recognizes its youthfulness, with "toast aromas" and "white-fruit flavors," advising to drink from 2025.

Overall, the 2014 Cristal offers a blend of rich flavors and a structured finish, promising to appeal to those who appreciate a Champagne with both immediate charm and long-term potential.
