jamessuckling.com, November 2019

Some earthy and savory aromas dominate the dried red cherries initially, then dried wild herbs and quite intense notes of spicy dried red cherries emerge. The palate has a very taut, structured feel with handsomely...

Vinous, April 2020

Sasseti's 2014 Brunello di Montalcino shows an earthy, almost-animal display of ripe strawberries offset by savory herbs, leather and coffee grinds. On the palate, smooth textures lead into ripe strawberry and cherry...

Robert Parker's Wine Advocate, February 2019

The 2014 Brunello di Montalcino is a sure-footed and steady wine with mild aromas of wild berry, cherry, spice and tar. Although the wine's intensity is slightly reduced in this vintage, this expression faithfully...

Wine Spectator, June 2019

Pretty cherry, strawberry, almond and earth aromas and flavors are the hallmarks of this red. Leather and saline elements add depth as this cruises to a long, minerally aftertaste. Best from 2021 through 2033. 1,600 cases...

For over three generations, the Sassetti family has been producing wine in Montalcino. The “Podere Pertimali”, with its 16 hectares of vineyards, is nestled on a slope in the Montosoli hill, north of Montalcino—one of the most favorable terroirs for Sangiovese in the area. Maintaining the family tradition, Livio Sassetti has renovated and extended the vineyards, retaining the genetic material of the original vines and preserving their characteristics.

Livio was among the founders of Consorzio del Brunello di Montalcino in 1967. In 1968, he built a terracotta wall in his cellar, to keep the old vintages of the wines produced by his family. Today, this collection counts over 1000 bottles, among which stands out as the ‘grandmother’ of the current production - a bottle from the 1915 vintage!

In 1999, the Sassetti family purchased a property in the Tuscan Maremma, La Querciolina, within the DOC Montecucco. Thanks to their passion and experience, untended fields were nutured into into vineyards which produce Sangiovese and Ciliegiolo of great quality.

Today, both wineries are managed by Lorenzo Sassetti, Livio’s son, who is focused in continuing his family’s winemaking tradition.

Pertimali Brunello di Montalcino is 100% Sangiovese. The grapes are fermented in stainless steel and matured in barrel for 36 months, and again in bottle for another 6 months.
