Many see the 2014 vintage as problematic, but it did in fact outperform in many unexpected situations. This wine speaks to the more nuanced and Burgundian side of Brunello. It offers delicate berry notes with wild cherry, rose hip, licorice, grilled herb and toasted aniseed. In the mouth, this is a polished and tightly textured expression with silky tannins and long, streamlined appeal. I am very happily surprised by this beautiful wine (but would recommend a shorter drinking window compared to previous vintages).- ML collapse

Gorgeous aromas of blackberries, black cherries and flowers, such as violets. Medium body, super fine tannins with wonderful length and breed. Racy and refined with plenty of depth and beauty. Drink or hold.

With 6ha of vines, Giodo is in Montalcino's southern cru of Sesta and the inaugural release was 2009. His 2014 is a fine showing. The nose offers intriguing nuances of tobacco, bay leaf, espelette pepper and roasted coffee. Piercing acidity matches curranty fruit and the tannins are finely powdered. With a lingering, spicy finish, this is still a bit awkward and bony today but should come together shortly. collapse
