A plush style, in both texture and generosity of fruit, this red boasts black cherry, black currant, floral and spice flavors. Harmonious and well-struc-tured, with a firm, chalky feel on the extended finish. Best from 2022 through 2042. — B.S.

(90-93) Much more moderate but again, not invisible oak serves as a backdrop for the liqueur-like red berry fruit, earth and softly animale-scented nose. The sleek and seductively textured medium weight flavors possess an underlying muscularity though the abundant sap does a fine job of buffering the moderately firm tannic spine on the sneaky long finale.

(90-92) The 2015 Charmes-Chambertin Grand Cru has a rounded and opulent bouquet with "billowing" redcurrant and crushed strawberry scents, just a touch of sous-bois tucked in underneath. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannin, quite tensile in the mouth and surprisingly linear towards the finish when you expected it to fan out. Perhaps it just needs time to flex its muscles.
