The aromas evoke pure cherry, strawberry and floral notes, accented by hints of mineral and spice. Tensile, detailed and long, with great energy and structure driving this to a lingering, mouthwatering finish. Best from 2022 through 2038. 20 cases imported.–BS

This is more elegant still with its cool essence of red cherry, plum, violet, lilac and spice-nuanced aromas that are set against a backdrop of moderate wood. There is a lovely sense of tension and energy to the bigger-bodied and more mineral-inflected medium-bodied flavors that culminate in an impressively long finish that is a beautiful combination of refinement and power. Note well though that this mildly warm but still reasonably well-balanced effort is going to require extended cellaring.

The 2015 Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Les Fontenys wafts from the glass with a ripe bouquet of plum, cassis, rich spice and roasted meat. On the palate, the wine is full-bodied, ample and layered, with a lavish attack and deep core of dark fruit, marked by the vintage but still structured for the long haul. The average age of the Roty's vines in Les Fontenys is around 70 years, and they seem to have handled the warmth of 2015 well. - William Kelley
