Rich, lush and elegant on the palate, this is a precise and very fine, super sensual and well structured Auslese with serious grip and concentration. Keep it for 15 and drink it over 30-40 years. - Stephan Reinhardt

From the portion of Juffer-Sonnenuhr formerly known simply as “Brauneberger Lay,” this "two-star" cask-nicknamed Auslese delivers a concentration of pear, papaya, licorice and crystallized ginger as pungent and invigorating on the nose as on the surprisingly firm palate. As with the other Richter Auslesen of this vintage, there is some unresolved sweet-sour tension that reminds me of quite a few young 1990s. But the emergence of caramel and honey on the sustained finish does not eclipse the wine’s rich fruit or alluring spice. -David Schildknecht
