Tenuta Sette Ponti sits in the land of Sangiovese and Chianti, not far from the historic town of Arezzo. The estate received its name from Antonio F. Moretti, who wanted to pay homage to the so-called Road Sette Ponti (Seven Bridges), which connects the banks of the River Arno between Florence and Arezzo.

Tenuta Sette Ponti holds 330 hectares of land, of which more than 50 are planted with vineyards—tended entirely without mechanization. Included are Sangiovese, but also some great "internationals", such as Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Petit Verdot, and a small selection of other varieties. The soil composition has a heterogeneous structure, well combined between clay, sand, limestone, and typical Chianti stone Galestro.

The grapes undergo a “one by one” manual selection when they arrive in the cellars. An open vat fermentation is preferred along with a gentle pressing to get the best aroma from the grapes without bitterness or excessive drying.

The 2015 Sette Ponti Oreno Proprietary Red Wine is a remarkable expression of the Tuscan terroir. This red wine, crafted from a proprietary blend of Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Petit Verdot, showcases the expertise and passion of the renowned Sette Ponti winery.

In the glass, this wine reveals a deep, rich color that immediately catches the eye. On the nose, it exudes an enticing bouquet of blackcurrant, blackberry, and dark chocolate, intertwined with delicate undertones of oyster shell and walnut. The aromas are further enhanced by subtle notes of blueberry, light vanilla, and coffee, adding to the wine's complexity.

On the palate, the 2015 Oreno is full-bodied and impeccably structured. It displays an impressive tightness and firmness, indicative of its age-worthy nature. The flavors of black fruit are prominent, accompanied by a touch of spice, tobacco, and crushed granite or limestone. These layers of flavor create a harmonious and sophisticated profile that is both powerful and balanced.

James Suckling awarded this wine a remarkable score of 98 points, praising its intense fruit character and tight structure. He suggests giving the wine a few more years of aging to allow it to fully integrate. Wine Spectator also commends this wine, awarding it 94 points and describing it as rich, dense, and elegant. They note the fresh and balanced feel on the finish, highlighting the black cherry, black currant, and mineral flavors.

Robert Parker's Wine Advocate awarded this wine 93 points, noting its rich color saturation and thick lines. They praise the black fruit flavors, spice, and tobacco notes, as well as the wine's density and power. Monica Larner suggests further cellaring to allow the tannins to soften, as the wine has a firm and powerful structure.

The 2015 Sette Ponti Oreno Proprietary Red Wine is a true gem from Tuscany. Its complexity, power, and balance make it a wine that will continue to evolve and delight for many years to come. Whether enjoyed now or cellared for future enjoyment, this wine is sure to impress even the most discerning of palates.
