There are many things I love about wine tasting. One of the great pleasures is tasting wine in barrel and scoring it higher in bottle, which is a true sign of quality. That is what took place here clearly. This wine is off the charts! The level of intensity has to be tasted to be believed. The fruit tastes as if each berry was polished with a velvet cloth. This is incredibly hedonistic. With a surreal texture, the wine unfolds and coats your palate with waves of perfectly ripe fruits. cashmere tannins make you with the 60 second finish was even longer! (98 + points) The 2015 Trotanoy is medium to deep garnet colored. It sings with gorgeous scents of black cherry preserves, blackberry pie, and juicy blueberries, plus wafts of tobacco leaf, licorice, and mossy tree bark with a waft of crushed rocks. Full, super-concentrated, and built like a brick house, it has rich, concentrated black fruit and earthy layers, finishing with epic length.

Another great vintage in this exceptional line-up. This is extremely young, exhibiting a slightly square muscular structure at this point. It’s very tight right now and needs at least another five years before widening out and softening. A vintage that favoured this part of the region with weather that was dry, warm and sunny for the most part - the storms of September, for example, saw 120mm of rain in St Estèphe, 63mm in Margaux, and just 21mm in Pomerol - which no doubt helped accentuate the concentration and aromatic precision here. There’s a touch of heat on the finish, but it’s more than balanced out by liquorice, black chocolate, graphite and cassis. Creamy raspberry, beautiful clarity to the brambled fruit, with a slab of bitter chocolate and fennel. As you would expect from Trotanoy, the mid palate expands and deepens, expertly constructed and just full of quiet joy. Composed of 93% Merlot and 7% Cabernet Franc, the 2015 Trotanoy reveals a medium to deep garnet-purple color and comes prancing out of the glass with the most striking black fruit preserves, plum pudding, red currant jelly and blueberry compote notions, followed up by nuances of rose petals, chocolate box, licorice and menthol plus a waft of wild mushrooms. This wine is rich with tannins and superb fruit. The blackberries and black plums are succulent and chewy, giving the wine an opulent, ripe character. This 18-acre vineyard, with 93% Merlot, has produced an impressive wine. Drink from 2027.

This is laden with fig bread, ganache, smoldering tobacco, warm currant confiture and fig paste aromas and flavors that rumble through a charcoal-tinged finish. Dense, but the grip is thoroughly melded with the fruit, giving this a very composed feel through the lengthy finish. Best from 2024 through 2040. 1,718 cases made. — JM

95+ Managed by the talented Moueix team, the 2015 Château Trotanoy is a ripe, hedonistic, heady beauty that boasts awesome notes of ripe cherry fruit, toasted spices, fruit cake, and forest floor, with more floral and incense nuances coming through with time in the glass. A blend of 93% Merlot and 7% Cabernet Franc, this full-bodied, sexy, exotic, and beautifully textured 2015 has sweet tannin, moderate acidity, and a great finish. It needs 4-5 years of bottle age to round into form but will impressive for 20+ years.

The 2015 Trotanoy is impressive, though I would not rank it amongst the best over the last decade. This has an engaging and complex bouquet with black cherry, mocha, balsamic and autumn leaf aromas that combine beautifully. This has the nose of a Pomerol aged for more than ten years. The palate is medium-bodied with pliant tannins, exquisite balance and poise. It is fresh and vibrant with a little more clarity and mineralité than the La Fleur-Pétrus. The 2015 is a wonderful Pomerol that is drinking delightfully right now. -- Neal Martin
