The Beau-Sejour Becot vineyard is situated on the western plateau of Saint-Emilion, in the old parish of Saint-Martin de Mazerat. The estate covers 18.5 hectares of which 16.52 hectares are planted with Merlot (70%), Cabernet Franc (24%), and Cabernet Sauvignon (6%) on chalky soil with fossilized starfish. The average age of the vines is 40 years old and the fruit is harvested by hand.

This wine undergoes malolactic fermentation in 80-100% new barrels depending on the vintage. It then ages in the cellar for 16 to 18 months at constant temperature of 16 degrees Celsius. Annual production is approximately 60,000 bottles.

The 2016 Beau-Sejour-Becot from Saint Emilion, Bordeaux, is a Bordeaux blend comprising 80% Merlot, 15% Cabernet Franc, and 5% Cabernet Sauvignon. This wine, produced by Beau-Sejour-Becot, is presented in a 3000ml format with a cork closure and an alcohol content of 14.0%.

James Suckling awarded this wine a score of 95, describing it as "extremely aromatic and lifted on the nose with wild fruit and flowers, as well as chalk and mushroom undertones." He praised its "full body and ultra-fine tannins with beautiful grace and balance," noting its potential to further develop and suggesting it be enjoyed after 2023.

Wine Enthusiast also scored it 95, noting its "smoky quality, with ripe tannins and dense blackberry and spice flavors as well as wonderful freshness." They highlighted its significant potential, thanks to its rich tannins and acidity, recommending it be ready to drink from 2025.

He described a "sensual bouquet of pure red cherries and crushed strawberry laced with cedar and light graphite scents," and commented on its "supple tannin and well-judged acidity," suggesting that the 2016 vintage could be the finest Beauséjour Bécot ever made.

Wine Spectator's review, published by J.M., gave it a slightly lower score of 94. The review highlighted its "beam of pure blackberry and raspberry fruit racing through, carried by a polished structure and infused with alluring black tea and incense tones," and noted its "velvety" finish with "graphite and tobacco notes buried within."

Robert Parker's Wine Advocate, with a review by Lisa Perrotti-Brown, also scored it 95 points. She noted its "medium to deep garnet-purple color" and a complex nose of "chocolate-covered cherries, preserved plums and black raspberries" with hints of "stewed tea, tobacco, red roses and cinnamon stick." She praised its "rock-solid frame of ripe, finely grained tannins," and "provocative black fruit and savory layers on the finish."

Jeff Leve from TheWineCellarInsider.com gave the highest score of 96, calling it "the best wine from the Becot family yet," praising its "sexy, fleshy, opulent, polished" nature and suggesting it will be outstanding after 8-10 years of cellaring.

Jeb Dunnuck awarded it 95 points, describing it as "straight-up classy, seamless, ultra-fine," with a "beautiful bouquet of red currants, white truffles, spice, and flowers," and noted its "brilliant limestone character."

Decanter gave it a score of 94, noting its "lovely delivery of extremely ripe black fruits dotted through with minerality and little pulses of electricity," and praised its "elongated tannins that are chalky in all the right places."
