Robert Parker's Wine Advocate, February 2019

(94+ points) I am happily impressed by the 2016 Pietradonice. This wine is so easy and pleasant to drink, I'd say it's almost dangerous: The bottle finishes much faster than you'd like. When in Montalcino, there are few...

In 1971, Giovanni Neri founded Casanova di Neri in the eastern part of Montalcino. Over time, vineyards were added in other areas. The first was the Cerretalto vineyard which has a unique terroir in a natural amphitheatre over the Asso river. The winery used its old vines, with small bunches of well-spaced grapes, to create a selection for propagation in their other vineyards.

The first Brunello harvest in the original vineyard was in 1978. Harvests in other vineyards started with Cerretalto in 1981, then Tenuta Nuova in 1993, Pietradonice in 2000 and Ibbianco in 2011. Currently the estate covers a surface of around 500 hectares of which 63 are vineyards, 20 olive groves and the rest arable land and forest.

The 2016 Casanova di Neri Pietradonice IGT is a remarkable red wine that showcases the excellence of Italian winemaking. Crafted by the esteemed producer Casanova di Neri in the renowned region of Tuscany, this proprietary blend is a true testament to their commitment to producing exceptional wines.

In the glass, the wine exhibits a rich and darkly saturated color that immediately captures the eye. On the nose, the aromas are ripe and enticing, with notes of blackberry, plum, spice, and sweet tobacco. These aromatics create a captivating bouquet that sets the stage for the sensory journey that awaits.

Upon the first sip, one is immediately struck by the wine's smooth and supple approach. The optimal ripeness of the tannins is truly impressive, providing a velvety texture that caresses the palate. The balance between fruit and structure is impeccable, showcasing the masterful winemaking techniques employed in its creation.

The 2016 Pietradonice is a wine that can be enjoyed both in its youth and with some additional cellaring. While it possesses the potential to age gracefully, it also delivers immense pleasure from the moment it is opened. Its drinkability is so captivating that one may find themselves reaching the end of the bottle sooner than expected.

Renowned wine critic Robert Parker's Wine Advocate awarded this wine an impressive score of 94 points, further solidifying its quality and appeal. Parker describes the wine as easy and pleasant to drink, noting that it is almost dangerous due to its irresistible allure.

With only 6,570 vintages produced, the 2016 Casanova di Neri Pietradonice IGT is a true gem that showcases the potential of Cabernet Sauvignon in the Montalcino region. Whether enjoyed on its own or paired with hearty dishes, this wine is sure to impress even the most discerning of palates.
