Once again the tannic weight has jumped up. This was a superb vintage, and here you get a wonderful depth and character, just a beautiful wine, well balanced, a ton of concentrated black cherry, damson, cassis, mint leaf, grilled orange peel, violets, real precision and heft, excellent. 55% new oak for ageing. The blackberry and dark-plum aromas are very prevalent here. Undertones of lemon rind and hot stones. Medium-to full-bodied, firm and chewy. Linear and focused with a fine line of tannins and acidity running through the center palate. Shows class. A blend of 75 per cent merlot and 25 per cent cabernet franc. Drink in 2022.

A very youthful example of the 2016 vintage, not yet even ten years old. This is dense and pure, with layer upon later of black liquorice, black bean and blackcurrant, with a touch of desiccation to the fruit. There follows a surprisingly supple, broad and dense character on the palate, with sweet fruit, black bean, currant, black cherry and olive, bringing a dark, savoury and salted character to the flavour profile. Underneath it all, a huge tannic structure, one which really clamps down and controls the finish. This needs decades in the right cellar, preferably mine. - Chris Kissack

The 2016 Clos Du Clocher is a deep, inky-hued Pomerol that leans toward the richer, more structured side of the vintage. Offering ample ripe dark fruits, spice, and hints of iron, it hits the palate with medium to full-bodied richness, plenty of mid-palate depth, chewy, firmer tannins, and a great finish. While it’s not the most elegant Pomerol out there, it remains a serious, compelling beauty that will benefit from another 4-5 years in the cellar and it should see its 30th birthday in fine form.

The 2016 Clos du Clocher is medium to deep garnet-purple colored and very earthy on the nose with cigar box, forest floor, truffles and charcoal aromas with black cherries and baked red and black plums. Elegantly styled, the palate is medium-bodied with perfumed fruit, a fine-grained frame and a long refreshing finish. - Lisa Perrotti-Brown

Bigger and richer than its sibling property of Bonalgue, the terroir here allows more leeway in terms of wine construction. It has layers of liquorice, charred oak and rich black fruits, with Cabernet Franc austerity currently evident, lending both structure and florality. This is showing better than during en primeur, displaying clearer minerality and salinity on the finish without sacrificing the Pomerol embrace. Great potential, with a real sense of vitality. Plummy, sensuous, and fleshy, the fruit feels just great on your palate. The wine is plush and polished with richness and silky textures in the finish.
