One of the finest whites from this estate is the 2016 Cos d'Estournel Blanc, which is 75% Sémillon and 25% Sauvignon brought up all in oak, 10% new. It boasts a vivid gold color as well as intense notes of white grapefruit, crushed rocks, flower oil, and a kiss of brioche. Medium-bodied, rich, beautifully textured and concentrated, it’s going to benefit from short-term cellaring and keep for 10-15 years.

Composed of 75% Sauvignon Blanc and 25% Sémillon, the Cos d'Estournel 2016 Blanc opens with exotic fruit notions of guava and passion fruit giving way to nuances of peach blossoms, honeysuckle and wild thyme. Medium-bodied, the palate is packed with tropical and stone fruit layers with a racy backbone and long, perfumed finish. - Lisa Perrotti-Brown

(WE90-92 points) This is a well-balanced wine that has ripe tropical-fruit and citrus flavors. Despite the warm, dry summer, it is so bright and lively, packed with fruitiness and crisp acidity.

A hint of reduction adds attractive tension and nuance throughout. The Blanc was fermented and aged in mostly neutral oak (7% new), with some lees stirring, but no malolactic fermentation. -- Antonio Galloni

Pomelo and honeysuckle on the nose and palate, with fresh citrus accents and a juicy, shot of lime in the finish, with fresh, crispness.

The 2016 Cos d’Estournel Blanc, which was bottled in July 2017, has a slightly muted nose that demands encouragement. Attractive lime flower, white peach and hints of frangipane develop with time, though I was hoping for just a touch more precision vis-à-vis its showing in barrel. The palate is well balanced with fine salinity on the entry. There is a light marine/oyster shell influence here, as well as fine depth and moderate length. This will probably drink well over the next decade, possibly more. 12.75% alcohol. -- Neal Martin
