(91 - 93) The 2016 Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru Les Chaumes, which includes around 20% to 25% whole bunch fruit, has a very elegant, restrained bouquet that just lets the blackberry and raspberry fruit flow from the glass, the oak neatly integrated and not imposing. The palate is medium-bodied with a saline entry. Again, I appreciate the purity of fruit, the finesse and the charm of this Vosne-Romanée. There is plenty of crunchy red berry fruit on the finish and a pinch of spice. Super bon, as they say in France.- NM

(90-92) An overtly spicy nose of poached plum, violets and sandalwood leads to rich, caressing and sappy medium weight flavors that possess a seductive mouthfeel thanks to the copious dry extract that imparts a velvety texture to the dusty and balanced finish that firms up just enough to suggest that this should improve over the next 6 to 8 years.

Rich full purple, not much fruit at first then some ripe blueberry notes. Definitely ripe fruit notes behind, black and blueberry, middleweight, some persistence, not immensely concentrated. There is an attractive juicy finish, reminiscent of bramble jelly.

Les Chaumes is always one of the most open-knit premiers crus of Vosne-Romanée, and Maxime Cheurlin has fashioned a very pretty example which will drink well early in its life. A fragrant nose of rose, violet and raspberries is followed by a supple, giving wine; velvety in texture, its core of fruit generous but cool.
