(88-91) A pretty and airy nose blends notes of red cherry, dark raspberry, spice and a hint of violet. There is fine intensity to the highly energetic middle weight flavors that display fine length. This is mildly rustic but overall it's a quality Chambolle villages.

(89-91) The 2016 Chambolle-Musigny Villages comes from nine parcels spread over six lieux-dits and includes 30% whole cluster with a long cuvaison and four pigeages. It has a clean, pure, charming bouquet with small red cherries, rose petals and just a hint of truffle—the whole bunch here deftly integrated. The palate is medium-bodied with succulent ripe red and black fruit infused with oyster shell, focused and taut with just a touch of spice toward the finish. This is a well-crafted village cru, especially considering the extent of frost damage in the appellation. - NM

(88-90) (a new wine for Liger-Belair; vinified with 40% whole clusters and aging in 40% new oak): Bright medium ruby. Even darker on the nose than the Hautes-Côtes de Nuits Les Trois Terroirs, offering scents of blackberry, violet and tropical dark chocolate and brown spice flavors. Rather relaxed in the middle palate considering the tiny yield of 12 hectoliters per hectare, but finishes with a firm dusting of tannins. -- Stephen Tanzer
