Pure, expressive aromas of pear, apple, spices, lichee, menthol and white flowers. Silky and ripe but lively too, with its ripe pear flavor conveying a glyceral texture without any excess weight. Finishes with lovely tactile persistence. This fruit was picked near 13% potential alcohol and was not chaptalized, noted Faure-Brac, adding that if Drouhin had waited any longer to harvest, the acidity level would have plunged even farther (it's 3.7 grams per liter following the malolactic fermentation).- ST

The 2016 Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru Les Embazées, located on the border with Santenay, was only slightly touched by the frost. It has a lovely beeswax and honeysuckle-scented bouquet that blossoms with aeration. The palate is very well balanced with a keen thread of acidity, moderate weight and a welcome spicy edge toward the saline finish. It does not quite deliver the length, but there is plenty of personality here.- NM

Once again there is a hint of residual sulfur and it's enough to suppress the aromatics today so I would suggest decanting this. Otherwise there is a rich and reasonably refined mouth feel to the generously proportioned and more subtly stony flavors that deliver good but not special complexity on the lingering finish where a hint of citrus zest arises. A wine of finesse in 2016.
