It offers a huge, rich, powerful style that never goes over the top and stays balanced and graceful. Currants, toasted spices, caramelized beef, and exotic notes all flow to a massively textured, powerhouse of a wine that has a stacked mid-palate, a bombastic personality, and a great finish. It needs two to three years of bottle age but is an incredible, heady, powerful wine.

(96 points) Deep in color, the wine pops with ripe, juicy, dark, sweet, spicy, round, peppery fruits. Silky, lush and powerful, graceful, fresh and long, this is just great juice! This should age quite nicely. The wine was made from blending 80% Grenache with 20% Mourvedre.

Cassis and blueberry flavors are juicy and mouthfilling in this buoyant, fruity wine. It's a glossy, silken sip, but anchored by a stalwart grip of tannins. Enjoyable in youth for its lipsmacking fruit it should gain finesse and savoriness through 2030. - ANNA LEE C. IIJIMA

(91 points) An 80-20 blend of Grenache and Mourvèdre from the lieux-dits of Bois Lauzon, Cabrières and la Gardiole, the 2016 Chateauneuf du Pape Cuvee du Quet is chewy and intense, in need of at least a few years in the cellar. Dark, dusky floral notes join big plum fruit on the nose and palate of this full-bodied, richly concentrated and tannic wine.
