(JS 94-95 points) This is a juicy and flavorful young wine with dusty and polished tannins. Lots of wild fruit and dark-berry and volcanic/salt undertones. Flavorful finish.

For almost two centuries, the Jaboulet family has shared a common passion for the Rhone Valley, its history, its terroir, its exceptional people and wines.

In 1834, Antoine Jaboulet started working the land on the hills of Hermitage. Through his hard work and passion, he was able to produce a wine of exceptional quality. The business was passed on to his sons Henri and Paul, with the latter later giving his name to the company.

Since then, the generations have continued to succeed one another until in January 2006, the Frey family, longstanding winemakers in Champagne and owners of Chateau La Lagune in Bordeaux, acquired Maison Paul Jaboulet Aine thus adding to its portfolio of prestigious names.

The company’s hundred or so hectares of vineyards are tended with the greatest possible care. The wide diversity of terroirs and the influence of micro-climates favor the production of Syrah, the principal variety and the sole red grape, while Roussanne, Marsanne and Viognier are used for the white wines.

Jaboulet wines represent generations of hard work and a passion for excellence and these values are adhered to by an unswerving commitment to improving vineyards, and through strategic acquisitions and work in the cellars, while respecting the environment at the same time.

The 2016 Paul Jaboulet Aine Hermitage Maison Bleue is a captivating red wine that hails from the renowned Rhone region of France. Crafted with the utmost care and expertise by Paul Jaboulet Aine, this wine is a true expression of the terroir and showcases the exceptional quality of the Syrah varietal.

With a deep, rich red color that glistens in the glass, this wine immediately captivates the senses. The nose is filled with enticing aromas of dark fruits, such as raspberries and cherries, that dance harmoniously with subtle hints of baking spices. It is a truly alluring bouquet that promises a sensory journey like no other.

On the palate, the 2016 Paul Jaboulet Aine Hermitage Maison Bleue delivers a full-bodied and velvety experience. The flavors of blackberry, blueberry, and spicecake are densely packed and burst with life, creating a symphony of taste sensations. As the wine lingers on the tongue, the spiciness intensifies, adding depth and complexity to the overall profile. The tannins are present but well-integrated, giving the wine a solid grip and structure that will ensure its longevity.

Renowned wine critics have praised this exceptional vintage. Robert Parker's Wine Advocate awarded it an impressive score of 93, noting its already drinkable nature and the silky finish. Vinous, another esteemed publication, granted it a score of 94, praising its expressive aromas and impressive length. James Suckling, with his discerning palate, awarded it an outstanding score of 95, highlighting its juicy and flavorful character.
