From bottle, the 2016 Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Les Cazetiers is showing very well, unwinding in the glass with aromas of cassis, cherries, black truffle, rich loamy soil and toasty new oak. On the palate, the wine is full-bodied, velvety and generous, with a lavish core of succulent fruit cloaking its fine tannic chassis, its balance and energy alike promising long evolution in bottle. As is usually the case chez Sérafin, this will demand a bit of bottle age to integrate its new wood, so purchasers should count on the better part of a decade's patience.- WK
