Bright red-ruby color. Sexy violet and mineral notes lift the aromas of cassis, redcurrant, spices, licorice, cocoa powder and bitter chocolate, plus a hint of tomato leaf in a positive way; very different on the nose from the rest of these wines owing to the absence of Cabernet Franc. Dense, fine-grained and sweet, with its dark berry, licorice and chocolate flavors conveying a suggestion of almost liqueur-like ripeness. A lot of stuffing here! The sweetest and most tactile of these wines to this point but with lovely saline restraint and pungent leafy lift. Finishes with firm but suave tooth-coating tannins and sneaky building length. Already fairly full and very smooth. I initially missed the treble notes normally provided by the Cab Franc but there are still plenty of high-pitched herbs, licorice and spices here. Owners Ben Smith and Gaye McNutt decided that the Cabernet Sauvignon made a complete wine in 2017, without the addition of Cabernet Franc. Similarly, they decided to bottle a one-off 100%-varietal Cara Mia Vineyard Cabernet Franc from the '17 vintage, but there's just a single barrel of this latter juice.
