jamessuckling.com, December 2019

Ripe and very powerful aromas of black licorice, currants and violets. Full-bodied, dense and flavorful with lots of very new, flashy wood. Sexy and gorgeous. Round and polished tannins. Superb wine for the vintage. Try...

Decanter, November 2019

It's fairly unusual in 2017 to find the bright blue-violet reflections around the rim of the wine that you find in years like 2010 and 2016, but it is here in abundance. Still extremely young, knitted, closed up, holding...

janeanson.com, March 2024

A seriously pretty Latour, not a phrase often associated with this most concentrated of wines, with real lyricism. Beautifully layered, with muscles that have a cushion of air underneath them. As during En Primeur, its...

TheWineCellarInsider.com, April 2018

Showing a caliginous hue, the wine is concentrated, full bodied, powerful, firm and graceful, coating your palate with layers of ripe, sweet, dark red fruits with salty tannins. Even with all the acidity it is impossible...

Robert Parker's Wine Advocate, March 2020

The 2017 Latour is a blend of 92.1% Cabernet Sauvignon, 7.8% Merlot and 0.1% Petit Verdot with 13.3% alcohol and an IPT of 66. Deep garnet-purple in color, it starts off a little broody before exploding from the glass...

The Wine Independent, March 2024

A blend of 92.1% Cabernet Sauvignon, 7.8% Merlot, and 0.1% Petit Verdot, the 2017 Latour has a deep garnet-purple color. It sashays out with showy notes of warm cassis, mulberries, and Morello cherries, followed by...

Wine Spectator, March 2020

A pure, sleek, seamless beauty, featuring a crystal-clear core of cassis, cherry and damson plum fruit racing along, glistening with lilac, iron and wet pebble notes. Shows terrific spine and clarity, with well-buried...

jebdunnuck.com, February 2020

96+ Based on 92.1% Cabernet Sauvignon, 7.8 % Merlot, and a splash of Petite Verdot, the 2017 Chateau Latour spent 16 months in new barrels and hit 13.3% natural alcohol with a pH 3.7 and an IPT of 66. It's a classic...

Vinous, February 2024

The 2017 Latour is just starting to open aromatically. Medium in body, with tannins that have begun to soften, the 2017 is super-expressive and inviting today. It's a charming, relatively accessible young Latour that is...

Chateau Latour, one of Bordeaux’s oldest and most famous wine producers, is a First Growth in the 1855 Bordeaux Classification. It’s located in Pauillac near the border with Saint-Julien.

Vines have existed on the property since the 14th century, but Chateau Latour first began producing wines of great quality in the early eighteenth century. The estate gradually came to specialize in wine production, with 38 hectares of vines in 1759 and 47 hectares in 1794.

The vineyard currently has 78 hectares in production. The grapes from the 47 hectares surrounding the chateau, known as “L’Enclos”, are used in the production of the Grand Vin. The 30 hectares outside of the Enclos are used for the Forts de Latour and the Pauillac wines. The estate is planted with about 80% Cabernet Sauvignon, 18% Merlot, and 2% Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot on gravelly hilltops and clay subsoil.

The 2017 Chateau Latour 2024 Ex-Chateau Release is a sublime expression of red Bordeaux blend, a harmonious mosaic of classic Bordeaux varietals from the exalted Pauillac sub-region in France. The Chateau Latour, the producer of this elegant wine, is renowned for their meticulous wine crafting that imbues each bottle with a unique blend of tradition and innovation.

As you pour this wine, the first thing you notice is the enchanting red colour, a deep and inviting hue that suggests a rich palate experience. The wine exhibits an impressive clarity and brightness, hinting at the careful handling and precise vinification techniques used at the Chateau Latour.

The nose of the 2017 Chateau Latour is a symphony of complex aromas. Expect to be greeted by an array of dark fruits like blackcurrant and blackberries, intertwined with subtle earthy undertones and delicate hints of tobacco and spice. This diverse and layered aromatic profile sets the stage for an equally impressive palate.

The wine is beautifully structured, a testament to its Pauillac heritage. The tannins are firm yet refined, providing a robust framework for the bold fruit flavours. The wine unfolds layer upon layer of dark berry fruits, poised against a backdrop of refined oak and a dash of minerality. Despite its depth and complexity, this wine maintains an incredible balance, each sip as inviting as the last.

With a cork closure ensuring optimal preservation of the wine's character, the 2017 Chateau Latour is a wine to be savoured now or cellared for future indulgence. A classic Bordeaux blend from a celebrated producer, this wine is a testament to the enduring allure of French viticulture.
