The 2017 Pündericher Marienburg Riesling GG Falkenlay is pure but generously ripe and bright, with matured and super matured apple aromas that are perfectly intertwined with notes of crushed or even milled stones. Full-bodied, intense and generous on the palate, this is a rich and powerful but silky-textured and highly refined Riesling with lots of extract and intensity but also elegance. The finish is dense and compact, with fine tannins intermingled with refreshing minerals that give grip and tension. This is a great GG and most likely the finest I have tasted from Clemens Busch in 20 years. Tasted in March 2019.- SR

Expressive, with notes of jasmine and white pepper framing the core of Bosc pear, quince and citrus oil flavors. Shows substance and length, with prominent acidity cutting through, delivering balance yet keeping everything intact. Needs a few more years, but this is on the right track. Best from 2022 through 2033. – AZ

On the nose, this delivers intimations of radish, mustard seed and crushed stone common to a great many of the youthful Busch 2017s. But one also gets whiffs of fresh lime and white peach that translate into generous juiciness on a subtly silken palate. Here is another Busch bottling that fascinates and delights with its juxtaposition of underlying textural richness with tang, cut, piquancy and pungency; and in this instance the seriously sustained finish sets one’s tongue and tonsils tingling. -- David Schildknecht
