A bright and fresh 2018 with cherry and floral aromas and flavors. Medium body, refined tannins and a linear finish with bright acidity. Tangy and energetic. Tight at the end. A year or two will open it, but already a beauty.

The Argiano estate extends across an area of about 125 hectares, occupied by vineyards, olive groves and natural forest. The birth of the estate is revealed by the construction of its villa, fashioned in the 16th century architectural style, and is thought to have been built between 1581 and 1596. Winemaking also developed at about the same time.

Ownership changed hands several times over the centuries among various noble families, until the estate came into the possession of Lady Ersilia Caetani Lovatelli in the 19th century. Under her enlightened management, the wines were promoted successfully in the finest cultural circles of the time.

In 1967, Argiano helped form the new history of Brunello di Montalcino when it participated with other historic wineries in the foundation of the Brunello Consortium. In 1992, the estate was acquired by Countess Noemi Marone Cinzano who introduced important innovations into the winery’s management. The estate changed ownership again in 2013 when it was sold to a group of Brazilian businessmen, who continued to make improvements and expand the estate vineyard holdings.

Since 1888, only the finest Sangiovese Grosso grapes grown on the estate have been used to make Argiano Brunello di Montalcino. Grapes are selected from the most noble vineyard plots, vinified, then aged for 1 year in both French oak barriques and tonneaux. In the 2nd year, the wine is transferred to large Slavonian oak barrels, which allow the wine to achieve balance. Finally, after completing 2 years of maturation in wood, the wine is transferred into concrete tanks.

The combination of concentrated, ripe grapes undergoing fermentation at meticulously controlled temperatures, together with careful ageing in a selection of different oak barrels, produces red wines that conserve that incredible aging potential for which Brunello di Montalcino is famous for.

The 2018 Argiano Brunello di Montalcino is a captivating red wine that showcases the impeccable craftsmanship of the Argiano estate in Tuscany, Italy. Made from the Sangiovese Grosso varietal, this wine exemplifies the pure expression of the Montalcino terroir and the meticulous attention to detail in the winemaking process.

In the glass, this Brunello di Montalcino displays a deep, ruby-red color that is reminiscent of a vibrant sunset over the Tuscan countryside. The aromas that waft from the glass are intoxicating, with layers of ripe red cherries, blackberries, and plums mingling with hints of dried herbs, leather, and tobacco. Each inhalation reveals a new facet of this wine's complexity, enticing the senses and inviting you to explore further.

On the palate, the 2018 Argiano Brunello di Montalcino is full-bodied and velvety, with a remarkable balance between its rich fruit flavors and its elegant structure. The ripe cherry and blackberry notes continue to shine, accompanied by nuances of licorice, cedar, and a touch of vanilla. The wine's tannins are firm yet refined, providing a sturdy backbone that carries the flavors through a long, lingering finish.

This wine is a true testament to the exceptional winemaking skills of the Argiano estate. The combination of the Sangiovese Grosso grapes from the prestigious Brunello di Montalcino sub-region and the careful aging in oak barrels has resulted in a wine that is both powerful and graceful. It is a wine that will undoubtedly evolve beautifully with time, rewarding those who have the patience to cellar it.

Whether you are a seasoned Brunello di Montalcino enthusiast or just beginning your journey into the world of Italian wines, the 2018 Argiano Brunello di Montalcino is a wine that should not be missed. It encapsulates the essence of Tuscany in every sip, transporting you to the sun-drenched hillsides and picturesque vineyards of this renowned region.
