Robert Parker's Wine Advocate, May 2021

While I've had multiple looks at previous vintages, this is my first review of the 2018 Hermitage Ligne de Crete Les Grandes Vignes. Inky in hue, it boasts powerful, brooding aromas that include hints of hardwood...

jamessuckling.com, March 2022

The vibrancy of the elderberry aroma on the nose of this Hermitage masterpiece is breathtaking, the palate amazingly concentrated and incredibly focused. A wealth of super-fine tannins and intense, stony minerality are...

Wine Enthusiast, March 2022

This inky, ripe Syrah is sourced from a single plot near the sun-drenched pinnacle of the Hermitage. Pumped with ripeness and searing black spice, the roasted, mouthstaining plum and blueberry flavors are rimmed by fiery...

Wine Spectator, August 2021

Plum paste, linzer torte and cassis notes give this a fruit-filled profile, while licorice, sweet spice and dark earth accents provide a solid background. There's a buried iron underpinning, and a late echo of singed...

Founded in 1835 by Charles Audibert and Phillipe Delas, the celebrated Delas Freres winery grows 30 hectares of vines comprising 10 hectares in Hermitage (including the Domaines des Tourettes estate), 2 hectares in Saint-Joseph, and 18 hectares in Crozes-Hermitage.

In addition to the grapes produced by Delas' own wine growing team, Delas' close relationships with like-minded owner-winegrowers ensure that the company is able to source grapes grown on individual parcels, which reflect their own unique terroir.

Exclusively a family-owned operation for over a century, Delas Freres joined forces with Champagne Deutz in 1977. In 1993, Deutz and Delas Freres were approached by the Rouzaud family, majority shareholder in the Roederer Group. They joined the Roederer Group under whose umbrella Delas' philosophy continues to flourish.

In the glass, this wine displays an enchanting deep, inky hue that immediately captures the eye. Aromas of hardwood charcoal, dark berries, licorice, crushed stone, and pencil shavings emanate from the glass, creating an alluring and brooding bouquet. The intensity is almost palpable, promising a sensory journey like no other.

On the palate, the 2018 Hermitage Les Grandes Vignes Ligne de Crete truly shines. Full-bodied and mouthfilling, it envelopes the senses with its richness, supple texture, and creamy mouthfeel. The concentration of flavors is astounding, with plum paste, linzer torte, and cassis taking center stage. The fruit-filled profile is complemented by notes of licorice, sweet spice, and dark earth, which provide a solid background.

The wine's impeccable balance is achieved through good levels of acidity, salinity, and fine, plentiful tannins. Despite its ripeness and concentration, there is an elegant characteristic that shines through, demonstrating the complexity and finesse of this cuvée. The finish is remarkably long, leaving a lasting impression of pure berry fruit, stony minerality, and finely integrated tannins.
