The Clos du Roi vineyard is a bit warmer microclimate than most of the Savigny premier crus, so I wondered if this would be the one wine in the Camus-Bruchon lineup that showed a bit more of the super ripeness of the 2018 vintage, but the answer was an emphatic “no”. The wine has turned out beautifully pure, precise and sappy, with the bouquet wafting from the glass in a beautiful blend of blackberries, cassis, bitter chocolate, gamebird, a touch of mustard seed, a superb base of soil, just a whisper of cedar and a topnote of woodsmoke. On the palate the wine is pure, full-bodied and potentially sappy at the core, with lovely soil signature, ripe, seamless tannins and a very long, perfectly balanced finish. This is a first class bottle of Beaune premier cru in the making.
