This north-facing left bank Premier Cru comes into its own in vintages like 2018. Made from two parcels totally 1ha of 65-year-old vines,it's suitably taut, saline and cool, with none of the heaviness that mars some wines from warmer sites. Floral, balanced and elegant, it has stony minerality to spare and a chiselled, refined finish. Drinking Window 2020 - 2028

According to Didier Séguier, Les Lys’ northerly exposition always gives it a leg up in solar vintages like 2018, so it is no surprise that the 2018 has turned out beautifully. The bouquet is flat out gorgeous in this vintage, wafting from the glass in a mix of fresh lime, apple, flinty minerality, citrus zest and again, dried flowers in the upper register. On the palate the wine is bright, pure and full-bodied, with a very mineral personality (especially for 2018!), with great mid-palate depth and grip, snappy acids and superb length on the focused and beautifully balanced finish. This is great juice in 2018- buy some of it in magnum if you can!

The 2018 Chablis 1er Cru Les Lys has turned out very nicely, offering up classic aromas of crisp green apple, citrus zest, white flowers and oyster shell. Medium to full-bodied, tensile and incisive, it's elegantly textural, with racy acids and fine depth at the core. As I observed last year, this is one of the domaine's cooler sites and thus one of the last to be picked. - WK

The 2018 Chablis Les Lys 1er Cru has a crisp, fresh, taut nose that is probably more terroir-driven than the Beauroy I tasted alongside. The palate is well balanced with a fine bead of acidity, and quite elegant, in keeping with the style of this vineyard. There is fine persistence on the finish. Recommended. -- Neal Martin
