(93+ points) From gravelly soils in a Gamlitz vineyard at 510 meters above sea level and aged for one year in large oak, the 2018 Ried Sernau König Sauvignon Blanc opens with a pure and spicy, very elegant and fresh nose with flinty notes of white and green fruit. Intense and concentrated on the palate, this is a dense and quite powerful but still reductive, untamed and athletic Sauvignon with stimulating citrus flavors on the finish as well as lingering salty acidity and fine tannin and phenolic grip. Coolish, with excellent aging potential. 13.5% alcohol. Tasted in October 2020.- SR
