Pretty pure fruit to this with black cherry, black berry and light chocolate aromas. The palate is full and focused with very polished tannins and a long, long finish. Best after 2027.

Caparzo produced its first vintage of Brunello di Montalcino in 1970, when the situation in Montalcino was very different than it is now. At the time there were only 13 wineries in Montalcino, thus Caparzo is one of the historic Brunello producers. The distinguishing characteristic of Caparzo's Brunello di Montalcino is clearly the origin of its Sangiovese.

The estate is one of the few in Montalcino that has vineyards in the various geographic areas of the appellation. What might seem to be just a detail is actually quite positive, because the different locations of Caparzo's vineyards allow the estate to draw from most of the different microclimates and terroirs present in Montalcino.

The grapes are carefully selected to lay the foundations for a complex wine that brings together all the characteristics that make Brunello one of the world's most sought after wines.

The 2019 Caparzo Brunello di Montalcino is a Sangiovese Grosso varietal from Tuscany’s renowned Brunello di Montalcino sub-region. This wine has garnered positive attention from critics and is noted for its balance, aromatic complexity, and quality.

Decanter awarded this wine 92 points, appreciating its "overt fragrant disposition" and describing it as "plush and soft in texture with an overriding redcurrant flavour." Decanter also noted its "fine framing tannins" and "zesty acidity," describing it as "straightforward overall but attractive in its charms," indicating it will be ready to drink upon release (Decanter, 11/14/2023).

Jeb Dunnuck rated it slightly higher at 93 points, emphasizing its "rich ruby color" and a "lovely bouquet of medicinal herbs, dried redcurrants, roses, and orange zest." He praised its "lovely freshness and purity," noting its medium-bodied palate with "angular tannins" and a "clean finish." Dunnuck highlighted the wine's value and suitability for restaurant offerings, suggesting it is best enjoyed over the next 6-8 years (Jeb Dunnuck, 2/28/2024).

James Suckling gave an excellent review, scoring it 95 points. He lauded the wine's "pretty pure fruit" with "black cherry, blackberry, and light chocolate aromas." Suckling appreciated its "full and focused" palate with "very polished tannins" and a "long, long finish," recommending it for consumption after 2027 (James Suckling, 9/25/2023).

Robert Parker's Wine Advocate rated it at 94 points, commending its "lively aromas of cherry cola, forest berry, and dried cranberry." The review highlighted the wine's "impressive" dimension and mouthfeel, as well as its "balanced and much-needed freshness," noting the ambitious release of 160,000 bottles (Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate, 12/15/2023).

Vinous also rated it 93 points, noting its slow opening in the glass, which reveals a "dusty blend of dried flowers, cedar shavings, wild strawberries, and spice." The review appreciated its "silky and enveloping" texture with "fresh acidity" and "pretty wild berry fruits," and a finish that is "long and staining yet still lively and spry" (Vinous, 12/1/2023).

Wine Spectator gave it 92 points, describing it as "rich and supple," with "cherry, blackberry, graphite, and tobacco aromas and flavors." The review noted that the wine's "dense, dusty tannins emerge as this builds to the long, lively finish," although it found the wine "a bit rustic" (Wine Spectator, 4/1/2024).

Finally, Kerin O'Keefe scored it 93 points, appreciating its "delicate aromas suggesting graphite, crushed mint, and iris." She described the palate as "smooth and sleek," featuring "juicy Morello cherry, raspberry, star anise, and the same graphite as the nose." O'Keefe noted its polished tannins and accessibility, suggesting it will offer a decade of pleasure (Kerin O'Keefe, 11/1/2023).

The 2019 Caparzo Brunello di Montalcino stands out as a well-regarded wine across various reviews, praised for its aromatic complexity, balanced structure, and overall quality.
